Thirsting for God

THIRST. IT IS SOMETHING THAT WE EXPERIENCE IF WE DON’T GET ENOUGH WATER.

Our bodies crave it and nothing else will quite satisfy it. It is one thing to experience thirst when you know water is only minutes or seconds away. It is a whole other thing to experience thirst when you don’t know when your next sip of water will be.

Below are some stories from our students describing this thirst during their trip through the Sahara:

“Our group ran into a bit of a problem day two of our trek into the Sahara to reach the desert nomads: we had run out of water. It was midday… in July… in the Sahara. We had already reached 135°F and even the occasional breeze felt scorching. The only option we had was to continue on to our next oasis where water could again be found; however, this oasis was still a two hour camel ride across hot, glowing sand dunes. Many were becoming dehydrated. Many were sick to their stomachs. I personally had experienced an emotional breakdown. The thirst I experienced during those two hours on top of that blessed camel is indescribable. All I could think of was water. My every plea to God was for water. I dreamed of water flowing deep beneath the sand. I pictured the water that was stored safe inside the camel beneath me. I thirsted for water with every ounce of my being."

SO MANY PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD ARE EXPERIENCING THIS THIRST.

They are thirsting for a God that they do not know exists. They are dehydrated on life and need replenishment. They long for a relationship where they are accepted for who they are and not for what they accomplish.

Our Cafe 1040 students get to be a part of telling the story of Jesus to the people who have never been told. Our students get to tell these people that there is a God who will accept and unconditionally love them just as they are.

“O GOD, YOU ARE MY GOD; EARNESTLY I SEEK YOU; MY SOUL THIRSTS FOR YOU; MY FLESH FAINTS FOR YOU, AS IN A DRY AND WEARY LAND WHERE THERE IS NO WATER.” PSALM 63:1
