[DEVOTIONAL] A Compelling Love
For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Psalm 108:4
Writing inspired by our friend and partner in Brazil.
What would it look like to embrace a love so vast it stretches beyond the heavens? A faithfulness so unshakable it touches the skies?
The psalmist’s words in Psalm 108:4 stretch our understanding of God’s love and faithfulness. They are immeasurable, reaching higher than the heavens and deeper than human comprehension. This divine love, extravagant and unearned, is the foundation of the Gospel—a Gospel that CALLS us and COMPELS us to action.
If God’s love is higher than the heavens and His faithfulness reaches to the skies, it is not confined by geographical borders or cultural barriers.
It calls us beyond the limits of our comfort zones into a relationship with Him and compels us to step into His mission—to reach those who are still far from Him.
This is the Great Commission: an invitation to align our lives with His heart for the nations.
Yet, aligning with God’s heart begins with abiding in Him. Jesus reminds us in John 15:5 that apart from Him, we can do nothing. Abiding in His love transforms us, not into mere spectators but into active participants in His work. As we dwell in the presence of the One whose faithfulness spans the skies, we find the courage and strength to share His love with those who have never heard it.
The reality that over 3 billion people live with little to no access to the Gospel calls for our response. God’s love is too great, His faithfulness too far-reaching, for us to remain unmoved.
Every prayer whispered, every encouragement offered, and every step of obedience taken in His name becomes part of this grand narrative—a narrative in which every believer has a role to play.
Today, consider the vastness of God’s love and faithfulness. Allow these truths to stir your heart toward His mission. What does it mean for you to abide deeply in God’s love and step boldly into His mission today? How can you reflect the height and depth of His love to the world around you?
Reflection
1. How does abiding in God’s love prepare you to step out of your comfort zone and participate in His mission?
2. What is one way you can reflect God’s boundless love and faithfulness to someone in your life today?
3. What role might God be calling you to play in sharing His love with those who have never heard the Gospel?
