VISION

We exist to see disciples of Jesus from every people group

We are a community that believes the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the single most significant event in the history of the world. But over 3 billion people have little to no access to this gospel. That’s 42% of the entire world’s population.

This reality fuels our mission to empower the next generation of missionaries to tell the story of Jesus in places it is not yet told.

We believe that God has been working throughout history to gather worshippers from all nations. Because of that, we take seriously the opportunity to be part of the Church’s Commission to make disciples of every people group.

We know that one day there will be worshippers of Jesus from every tribe, tongue, and nation. Until that day comes, we are committed to mobilizing the next generation of missionaries to the least reached peoples of the world.

MISSION

LEADING A GENERATION TO TELL THE STORY OF JESUS WHERE IT HAS NEVER BEEN TOLD

Cafe 1040's mission was formed around the reality that there are billions of people without access to the story of Jesus.  God chooses to use His people to change this reality - to tell the story of Jesus among all peoples.  So we asked, what can we do to help get more missionaries in the places where they are most needed? And who will these missionaries be?

We believe young adults have a strong desire and unique ability to complete the Great Commission. Because of this, everything we do is focused toward mobilizing the emerging generation of missionaries from the pews of our churches to unreached peoples all over the world.

This generation needs to see it for themselves, so we invite young adults to come walk alongside long-term missionaries to see what their life could look like telling the story of Jesus among an unreached people group. We run our missions mentorship program among people groups from the 10/40 Window currently in three locations: North Africa, Central Asia, and Europe. While there, students are immersed in cross-cultural living, language, history, religion, and spiritual discipleship - all for the purpose of equipping the next generation of missionaries with the clarity and confidence needed to understand how their skills, passions, talents, and abilities can play a part in taking the story of Jesus where it has never been told.

Our Role in missions

Cafe 1040 exists to mobilize thenext generation of missionaries to the 3.1 billion people who have little to no access to the story of Jesus. But we know that the process from desiring to live overseas and actually getting there can be long and confusing.  There are common obstacles that keep people from serving – a GAP IN THE PROCESS between the desire to go and being sent.

The Scriptures

The Bible is the inspired Word of God. In its original languages it is without error. With the help of the Holy Spirit, scripture is understandable to all believers and authoritative in life.

God

There is one God who exists in three distinct persons (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Jesus Christ is the Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father. He became flesh, being born of the Virgin Mary and conceived by the Holy Spirit. He lived a completely sinless life, died on the cross, and was raised to life on the third day. He will personally return to earth to judge the living and the dead. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son and lives within each believer. He regenerates, counsels, convicts, and is the seal of salvation.

Mankind

We believe that man was created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him, but became alienated from that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, man is totally incapable of restoring right relationship with God by his own effort.

Salvation

We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, salvation only occurs when a person places their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the sufficient payment for their sin.

The Church

The Church is the body of Christ of which Jesus Christ is the Head. The members are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to a lost world.

Founded in 2000, Cafe 1040 exists as an answer to several hard questions our founder asked as he began to struggle with the knowledge and reality of Christian missions throughout the world.

Chuck, our Founder, was on staff with his local church and was working through a pastoral training course that required a missions credit to finish. During his studies, he attended an elective course on the state of the world—Perspectives on the World Christian Movement.

What started as a pursuit for course credit ended with a realization that rerouted his entire life and led to the creation of Cafe 1040. With a background and experience in extensive international travel and an understanding of Christian history, he began to see and learn that the entire Bible is about one narrative—God bringing all people groups to Himself.

The reality is that there are 3.1 billion people in the world who have never heard the name of Jesus.  85 percent of these people live in one area—the 10/40 Window—and only 3 percent of missionaries live inside the 10/40 Window.

Chuck began to wrestle with the questions: Why is this true? Is it even true? What can we do about it? Do I understand the situation correctly?

At the same time, Chuck was on a team organizing the first Passion OneDay Conference – a gathering of 50,000 college students coming together to worship and pray. At the event, John Piper was speaking about unreached peoples, offering a call to college students to commit to long-term work to share the gospel with those who haven’t heard it. He asked for those feeling a sense of this call to stand for prayer.

Expecting a few hundred to respond, Chuck looked out over an open field with thousands of college students on their feet praying.

AT THIS MOMENT, CHUCK HEARD GOD SAY IN HIS HEART, “THIS IS THE SOLUTION.”

He traveled the country with a marketing statistician performing dozens of focus groups uncovering basic principles that would build the essence of what Cafe 1040 would be all about. He learned that this emerging generation wants to change the world and complete the Great Commission. They have what it takes, and they have a set of common obstacles that holds them back.

Knowing this, Cafe 1040 invites young adults to come walk alongside long-term missionaries to see what their life could look like telling the story of Jesus among an unreached people group.

We currently run our overseas mentorship program, inside the 10/40 Window at one of our three overseas locations: North Africa, Central Asia, and Diaspora Europe.
