There aren't many of us who like being uncomfortable. We like planning ...everything. We like making to-do lists that we then accomplish. We like for things to be neat, tidy, and orderly. Dare I say we simply don't like events or people or things to be out of our comfort control?
But when you live cross-culturally, you can find that having that kind of control can be (at times) intangible.
Things like a water heater bursting & flooding your apartment, mold growing on so many walls you're losing count, mosquito infestations, and an infantry of cockroaches taking over your kitchen are not things any of us had on any of our to-do lists!
But, God. No, really! I'm pretty sure this isn't supposed to be happening! But, God. I'm a little too busy serving you to be preoccupied with all this stuff! But, God. Isn't it supposed to be easier than this? But, God. I don't like it.
"But God" means we can have hope when our human eyes can't see a way through our circumstances. "But God" means that ashes never determine the end of our story. This God we love is a God who redeems. What the enemy means for evil, God intends for good.
But God wants us to invite Him into the mess. Into our uncomfortable so that He can show us that no matter what circumstance is out of our control today, He holds the ending of our "but God" story in His hands.
Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
