The saying is true, “its so much better being in the passenger seat than driving.” Before I came on this trip, my perspective of missions was limited to building houses, giving out medicine, or handing children gifts. Not to diminish those things, but my perspective of missions has broaden- it is truly experiencing who God is, accepting His invitation, and being in relationship with Him to make His name known across the nations. These past few weeks, being placed in a completely different culture, has taught me to patiently and willingly adjust, because the culture does and will not change.
Visiting the villages and seeing the way the locals live; frustration, isolation, and anxiety were feelings that drifted in waves, but never settled because when they showed up- God showed out! Continuing to be present in His presence, He has shown me that He has a culture as well- a covenant culture.
Psalm 111:5 says, “He provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever.”
With that being said, I realized that abiding in Him is the only thing that does not result in exhaustion. Initially, I came seeking clarity to see if I would consider doing missions for my life. To be honest, I still do not know the answer, but this trip has allowed me to grow and trust in Him fully. He has revealed many characteristics of Himself and reminds me that no matter what the external view of the nations may look like- they are still created in His image (Genesis 1:26) and that they too will get to experience Him (Revelation 7:9-10). Therefore, I can truly enjoy the ride and allow God to take the wheel!
